Here is a video showing how Iranian college students and expats in the US and Canada react live before Oscar went to Asghar Farhadi.
The reaction was featured in an Iranian doc titled ‘From Iran, A Separation’ by Azadeh Mousavi and Kourosh Ataei.
“In 2012, Iranian movie ‘A Separation’ by Asghar Farhadi, won the Oscar Award for the Best Foreign Language Film. For the Iranian people this was more than a cinematic award. When sanctions and threats of war with Iran covered the world headlines, Farhadi talked about Iran's love for peace and the rich culture of the Iranians on the stage when receiving his award,” a review for the doc reads.
Farhadi also said along the same line during his acceptance speech, noting, “At this time, many Iranians all over the world are watching us, and I imagine them to be very happy, At the time when talk of war, intimidation and aggression is exchanged between politicians, the name of their country, Iran, is spoken here through her glorious culture, a rich and ancient culture that has been hidden under the heavy dust of politics.”
He added, “I proudly offer this award to the people of my country, the people who respect all cultures and civilizations and despise hostility and resentment.”
